New Lofts Built Upon
Historic Charm
Paying homage to its previous life, 26 State St. was acquired in 2015 as an expansion for the Orono Brewing Company.
The first floor is now a tasting room and bar for OBC while the upper floors have been transformed into three spacious one-bedroom apartments, appropriately named the Cigar Factory Lofts.
Once home to Bangor Cigar Manufacturing Company, these spaces have been meticulously crafted to retain their historic charm.
As Pike worked on the renovation, the building revealed its secrets. Hidden within its walls were remnants of its past: tags from the Bangor Cigar, vintage Christmas cards, and even old matchbooks. These discoveries, now showcased in a collage within the brewery, serve as a bridge between eras.
Preserving as much as possible, Pike restored the original tile on the first floor and the refinished hardwood floors. Original brickwork can be seen peeking from behind refinished walls. The old humidors, once essential for cigar rolling, have been ingeniously repurposed into kitchen islands, with their lids serving as unique pot and pan hangers.
